Living life in this world always involves both being who we are (that cumulative compendium of observation and opinion, belief and behavior, thought and feeling, intention and action wrought from every experience, joyous and sorrowing, from birth unto any given instant) and becoming who we will be (for, as long as there is breath, there is an inherent arc of personal progression).
And sometimes it is hard, well-nigh impossible to know which is which. Whether one’s being is one’s becoming or whether one’s becoming is one’s being. For these ever-related acts, these ever-related arts always are simultaneous in their essential existentiality.
In a word, being and becoming happen at the same time.
