Some things I have learned #8

Subtitle: Or, at the least, I think I believe

Sub-subtitle: Or, at the most, I believe I know

(Note: Quite recently, I was reminded of this, which proves an old dog always can relearn something old!)

In the course of my experience and in the context of my self-awareness and self-understanding, I always have benefited whenever someone, anyone, whether well-known to me or not so well known, has taken the risk to tell me of the effect, whether for good or for ill, that I have had on her or his life.

And I have learned to listen and to accept each.

Neither dismissing a compliment with the false modesty that resists public acclaim.

Nor discounting a criticism with the equally false competency of my immunity to error or my disgruntled denial to take personal responsibility for the harm I have done.

For to dismiss the good and to discount the bad is to reject human dignity; both of the one who ventures the vulnerability of expression and mine own as one capable of both good and bad.
