Quiet Pleas

Subtitle: Praying when God appears absent.

As a deer longs for flowing streams, so my soul longs for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God (Psalm 42.1-2)

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled (Matthew 5.6)

Kneeling with lifted hands, the pain of brittle knees matches my anguish in Your Absence. Still, in faith fervent, e’en feeble, I wait for You, O Lord. Maranâ thâ‘!

The air swirls silently ‘round me; the invisible staircase of my breath aching to echo the footfalls of Your coming. Maranâ thâ‘!

Where, O Lord, are You? I pray You, sate my soul’s hunger, quench my soul’s thirst! Maranâ thâ‘!

Ah, You are in the silence! You are the Silence!

Thus, I quiet my pleas to match Your Presence that I may hear Your still, small Voice.
