When not to fall in love

A dear friend, a noted biographer, recently shared one of the cardinal rules of her trade: “I strive mightily to avoid the allure of falling in love with my subject, for if…whenever I do, I lose my historical objectivity.”

Her striking observation stirred my thinking…

First, leading me to ask: If one were to take on the task of writing your biography, knowing yourself as you do, would your memoirist run the risk of succumbing to this temptation?

Secondly, leading me, knowing myself as I do, to confess: In my case, no.
