On Birth

The Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being (Genesis 2.7)

Human beings are born to trouble just as sparks fly upward (Job 5.7)

Birth embraces, literally, embodies both blessing and betrayal.

The blessing? I am granted entry into life in this world; being, concretely, at that moment, the only life I can know.

The betrayal? I am subject to all the ills of gradual loss that attend my mortality until that inevitable moment in time of my exit from this existence.

Yet, for fear of the betrayal, if given a choice, would I choose to forsake the blessing? Not on my life!
