Civility. Personal encounter is (must be) kind. The sharing of personal stories is an occasion neither for me to seek the fallacies in another’s life-narrative nor to claim any superiority of my perspective. Rather, as the purpose of personal encounter is mutual understanding, it requires an evident and shared spirit of safety, expressed in civility, which encourages vulnerability.
