“Just as I have loved you, you should love one another” (John 13.34b)
In a war-torn, gun-toting, conspiracy-theorizing world, the love of Jesus is rooted, not in human emotions, radicalized or otherwise, but in the will, that power to choose to serve others, all others in lowly footwashing service to life-giving sacrifice, if the occasion demands.
The love of Jesus rejects retaliation and revenge.
The love of Jesus always seeks the peace of reconciliation.
The love of Jesus is the only kind of love that makes a difference in a war-torn, gun-toting, conspiracy-theorizing world.
No wonder Jesus also said, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9.23).

Amen and amen! When can and will we, humans, learn to eschew all hate, and then love all people? God has done what God can and will do, I believe. It, now (and has been) on us.
