Let us love one another, because love is from God…God is love…We love because God first loved us (1 John 4.7a, 16b, 19)
Faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthians 13.13)

There is a vast difference between a gift and a wage. The former is given freely and unilaterally without qualification and quantification of my deserving based on what and how much I have done. The latter is paid, metaphorically and literally, in equivalent relation to a mutually agreed price of my labor.
Yet, concerning a gift, I have learned something else, something more. It is not mine to keep. For it is not a possession. Truly, for a gift to be (to remain) a gift, it must be kept in circulation.[1]
God, Who is Love, loves us. And to be loved is (to be empowered) to love. Therefore, in receiving this gift, I can do no less, no better than (God) to give it away.

[1] Here, I do not mean the practice of “regifting” in which I extend to another something that has been given to me that I either do not want or cannot use. Rather, whatever I have been given, whether material or immaterial (e.g., a sympathetic word), I, likewise, am to share with others.
