True it is that when I desire the good, evil appears. For always in my memories, my thoughts and feelings, intentions and actions dwell my sin that defies and denies the God I love. Wretched am I! (Romans 7.21-24a; my rendering)

There is one person from whom I neither can run nor hide. Especially in those moments when enveloped by the luminous, fearsome darkness where the unbeatable foe of the worst of that person is all I behold.
