Imagine

Jesus, recalling the words of the prophet Isaiah, said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me to bring good news to the poor, to proclaim release to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, to free the oppressed, and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4.18-19)

Jesus said, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as in heaven” (Matthew 6.10)

There are parades and parties where the no more poor celebrate and windows through which the blind behold the beauty of creation and mirrors, their comely reflections and barred walls evaporating and lockless cells inviting the oppressed to go free, refugees to return home, for the cries of hate and war fall silent at the good news of peace.

In this world is as it is, this may seem a dream beyond reason’s reach. Yet always close at hand it is; within the heart of faith, hope, and love, and hands willing to bring its light to life.

  1. Thank you for this Paul!! I printed it out and placed in over my desk where I can see it and it’s on my phone so I can see it as I travel a couple of days this week! I’ll keep reading it over and over because in the next two weeks it’s possible the poor will get poorer if the debt limit crisis isn’t resolved. I wish the HAVES weren’t the people in charge of making the rules for the HAVE NOTS because empathy for those less fortunate than ourselves doesn’t seem to be in their minds…. It’s just all about politics instead of focusing on the people who don’t have places to live and enough food to eat!
