Subtitle: A word for anyone seeking some (any) solace in these tempestuous times

Jesus said to his disciples, “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled. Do not let them be afraid” (John 14.27a; my emphases)

Worldly peace entails deliverance from affliction. The absence of tribulation.
God’s peace, abiding amid calamity, arises from an inner freedom from self. An interior liberty from an all-consuming self-consciousness that inescapably focuses on (and, thus, is susceptible to being disturbed by) external, always unpredictable and uncontrollable, chance and circumstance.
This kind of peace allows me to remain unafraid no matter the situation and, where and when possible, to labor to change it for the better.
How do I possess (truly, how am I possessed by) this inner freedom, this interior liberty? Spiritually, by faith. Trusting God, who, as eternal, transcends all things. And, existentially, by my constant awareness and tranquil acceptance that life is beyond my control.
